LICENSING

Medical licensing for different states can be a headache of paperwork. It is never too early to contact state licensing boards concerning the right to practice medicine in their state. Even if you have not signed a contract with a potential employer, but you already know which state you would like to practice medicine in, then contact the state board immediately!

The longer you wait to apply for a state license:

  • The more money you are costing yourself by not starting work sooner.
  • The more likely the competition (other 'licensed' physician candidates) appear better organized and more proactive.
  • The more likely the other 'licensed' physician will get the job.
  • The less marketable you appear to a potential employer.

Delay is deadly
Some state boards can take up to six months to approve you for licensure. Call the boards and ask for application procedures and estimated time frame to receive licensure. When mailing applications back make sure you have included all the forms filled out as concisely as possible. You will be relieved when the license arrives in the mail.

If you do not have the time to go through the licensing process, then hire a Licensure Consultant to relieve you of some of the burden. They can:

  • Expedite the process
  • Cut the wait time (depending on their relationship with the boards)
  • Make sure all documentation is submitted.
