Single Point of Contact
Scenario: As an administrator for a local hospital you have to juggle many responsibilities. Your day
is full of meetings, appointments, and you barely have a moment to spare. You come back from your
12 o’clock meeting and your phone indicates you have a voicemail. You quickly check to find it’s
another Physician Recruitment Firm calling. Normally you would either delete the message or politely
return the call and indicate you are “all set” for the moment. But today is different. Why? Well, per
your 12 o’clock meeting you know you have a pressing, urgent need for a General Surgeon. So as a
result you return the call and speak with “John” at “xyz” agency and request a contract.
You negotiate the Locum Tenens Contract with John and then call him about who he may have
to fill the need. John responds, “well, I just get contracts signed, I don’t actually fill the
need, that’s Betty’s job”. You think to yourself “ok…so I guess Betty is the person who
I’ll be speaking with”. You then fill out a form describing your Locum Tenens need in detail and send it off to Betty.
After Betty sends you a few CVs, you understandably want some more specific info on some candidates that catch your eye. Except there’s one problem, Betty doesn’t know these details. “That’s Steve’s job, he contacts the candidates, I don’t speak with any candidates”. Then you get the requested information and want to book one of the Physicians. Now you are talking to “Sally” from credentialing. Did the provider need a license? “That’s Jason’s job in the licensing department”.
And on and on it goes.
(If you think that’s bad, wait until you need another specialty!)
